High School Students Need To Plan Ahead
When kids turn seventeen years old, they’re usually in the eleventh grade and that’s the time when some crucial decisions need to be made. It is then that they need to determine whether they want to go on to college or just try to get a job right out of high school.
If you want to get accepted and enrolled in college, it is best if you apply when you are a junior in high school. Waiting until you are a senior usually means that you are too late and will miss out. So, it is in the eleventh grade that that important decision must be tackled and made.
Attending a college admittedly isn’t for everybody and particularly now when the price is so high. Most kids will have to get loans and then find themselves deep in debt when it comes time to graduate. Being in debt is not advisable for anyone and especially someone so young just out of college. Conversely, for those that decide to try to get jobs instead, they are faced with one of the toughest job markets this country has seen in modern times.
Jobs for 17 year olds and jobs for 18 year old high school students are tough to find now and it may remain that way for years. The U.S. economy is such that getting any form of a good job that pays well may not be practical for young workers with little experience. This makes college a superb option as by the time they graduate, jobs for young workers may be easier to obtain.
The cost of college has gone up tremendously in the last 10 to 15 years and it makes the choice of whether to go to school or just try to get a job a really difficult one. College is usually the right choice but at these high prices, going into debt might not be right for all students. Whatever decision our 17 and 18 year olds make this year, lets hope it is the proper one for them.
