Cotton Canvas Fabric
As a natural material, canvas fabric can’t be beat in terms of its weight to strength ratio. At the same time, because it’s usually made of cotton, canvas also tends to be much more pleasing to the eye and against the skin than synthetic materials like nylon or polyester. Another long-term use of canvas is in tents and other outdoor shelters. Outdoor canvas fabric is great for tents. It is simple to maintain, easy to handle, and long-lasting. Breathability is a great blessing when it comes to tents, as anyone who’s slept inside a stuffy nylon tent will tell you. Of course, Mongolian nomads figured this out a long time ago, as they have been covering their yurts in felt and canvas for millenia. Here, the canvas could be called waterproof canvas fabric, as rain would make the fibers of the fabric shrink together, giving it a natural waterproofing ability.
We haven’t even touched on the use of canvas in art, most notably as the medium on which paint is applied. Here, canvas’s excellent strength and paint-retaining qualities are unrivalled. Painters would be lost without it.
