Address Your Envelope Properly

Whenever sending mails or letters, it is a standard prerogative to use an envelope in order to preserve the secrecy of information contained in the letter. The envelope, being the outer part of every mail, sets the tone of the message sent through. If it is following a formal format or more professional style, the recipient may perceive the letter as business related. Otherwise, if the envelope was done in a more creative manner, or bearing a personalized design, it may connote a more personal message that may be solely intended to the addressee.

When addressing a business letter, whether to be sent to another person or a company, the envelope must contain the sender’s return address to be placed at the upper left hand corner and receiver’s address at the center. Both addresses must be complete, including full name, complete permanent or preferred address and proper zip codes. This applies for both parties. Delivery can be sped up if the written addressee is the same person being mailed for.

On the other hand, sending personal mails can be done by using personalized envelopes. Lined envelopes are the most commonly used envelope by people who are fond of preparing mail by their bare hands. Although personal mail is now becoming rare due to emails, there are still some instances when people have to send an actual letter in a traditional envelope. Preparation of a personal envelope follows the same procedure as for sending business letter.

Aside from lined envelopes, a foil lined envelope is also an option for sending personal cards, letters or greeting cards. When personal mails or cards will not be sent through local courier, it may forgo the standard procedure in addressing the envelope. The envelope can contain the name and address only if the sender will hand it over to the recipient.

Choosing which envelope to use greatly depends on the purpose of the mail to be sent. So be sure that you pick the right one and address your envelope properly.
