The 16th century brought with it the invention of portable time pieces known as pocket watches. While they varied in size and style from the pocket watches we know today, this was the start of a long chapter in history that would later lead to a unique hobby in the collecting and showcasing of antique pocket watches.

Until the pocket watch came along, clocks were huge and typically housed within a few homes or large buildings within a town. As popularity grew and more and more people began seeing them as a symbol of class, precious metals and gems and jewels were added.
