Knitting Wool Sweaters And Other Suggestions For Winter Time Activities

Wool sweaters will keep you warm this winter so why not learn a new skill and knit one over the long dark winter evenings. Knitting is fun and even if the sweater is too much of a task then start off your knitting skills with a woollen scarf. If you would like to try a different hand craft then rag rug making is an art that you might consider. Rag rugs utilize all of your old clothing and fabric scraps and use them to complete a very functional rug by using the pieces to good weaving effect. The stitches you need to use do not present any great difficulty once you master the latch hook (a special hook for rag weaving). Another way to while away the cold winter nights is to make and decorate your own craft box which you might use for holding small items of jewelry perhaps.

You may decide to learn to cook and then try out the new dishes on your family or friends. You could start with simple cake making and try out a fairy cake recipe or perhaps some oatmeal cookies or chocolate chip cookies.

Get yourself a set of watercolour paints and a couple of canvases (small neat canvas boards can be purchased reasonably) and learn to paint. Try out some pen and ink drawings if you don’t fancy paintings. All you need is a sketchpad and a fine tipped pen (or a set of colored pens).

Another way to pass a pleasant evening is with a traditional board game such as Monopoly or Scrabble if enough family members are interested. If only one other person is interested in a game you might decide upon a game of checkers or a chess game to pass an evening. There are many other ways to be mentally and physically active during the inclement winter months and I have suggested only a few sample ways, but you will have other ideas too.
